Description

What is an Anesthesiologist?

An Anesthesiologist is a medical doctor who cares for a patient before, during and immediately following a surgical or medical procedure by giving the appropriate amount of anesthesia and monitoring the patient for reactions and complications, and to ensure comfort and manage pain.

The Anesthesiologist usually will meet with the patient before the procedure to evaluate the patient's condition and review their medical history. The Anesthesiologist will also explain the process so that the patient knows what to expect. During the procedure, the Anesthesiologist will carefully monitor the patient's vital signs and comfort and make the appropriate adjustments in anesthesia. After the procedure, the anesthesiologist will continue to monitor the patient's vital signs and may be involved in the management of pain.
